The coronavirus has altered lives in many ways, and is a cause of anxiety for many. Here are some tips for maintaining positive mental health during this time filled with unknowns.

1: Go for walks (with a mask on)

Regular physical activity has been proven to reduce anxiety and improve moods. Additionally, getting outside provides Vitamin D and further decreases anxiety. Going for a walk once a day is a great way to clear your head and get some fresh air.

2: Find ways to connect with others

This can be an isolating time, with social distancing being an essential component of beating the virus. However, communication and interaction with others is important for maintaining good mental health. You can try socially distanced picnics with friends, virtual book clubs or movie nights, or even just FaceTiming with a good friend.

3: Reduce stressful triggers

Try limiting your exposure to the news and other stressors. Additionally, make sure to set clear boundaries between work and personal life. This can be particularly challenging when working from home, but it is critical to maintain.

4: Know when to ask for help

Whether it be from a friend or a trained professional, sometimes we all need help. This is a difficult time for everyone, and nobody can get through it alone. If you find yourself struggling, reach out to a friend and try talking about how you are feeling. If you want additional support, there are numerous resources available to you.
