I have 20 years of experience working in the field of mental health and received my BS degree in applied psychology from NYU and my master’s degree in social work from Columbia University. Mental health and wellness have been a passion of mine since I was a little girl. My grandmother and I would play “Dr. Ruth ” and “talk out” our feelings. My grandmother’s gentle nature and openness to the human condition fostered my love of the human mind and set me on my path to counseling. In my practice I believe that it’s important to have a safe space to feel heard, validated, and listened to, especially in today’s hectic world. In my work I have found that the search for the elusive “happiness”, is a false path to solving our problems, especially with the twists and turns that life will inevitably throw at us. Instead, I like to help my clients find the “small joys” that are attainable and achievable daily. My friendly down to earth approach aligns with my person-centered focus to treatment. In the treatment process I prefer to be eclectic as I believe there is no “one size fits all”. I like to utilize different methodologies ranging from CBT, brief solution focused, narrative, motivational interviewing, trauma informed therapy, harm reduction, and psychodynamic practice to fit what approach best works for you. My specialties include, but are not limited to anxiety/panic attacks, life transitions, relationship/attachment, and anger management. Therapy is a journey of self-awareness and healing and I look forward to helping you to begin your Journey.
