Mat Elder is a Licensed Master of Social Work. He is a graduate of Silberman School of School Work. While in school, Mat trained in various therapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioral (CBT), solution-focused (SFT), and psychoanalytic. Post graduate school, he was certified in Motivational Interviewing (MI) through NDRI-USA. As a Master of Fine Arts from Smith College, Mat is equipped and interested in integrating mindfulness, grounding, and client-centered artistry to his individual sessions.
Mat has worked with various populations as a therapist including formerly incarcerated men and women, the homeless, families within criminal and family court, and children. He has worked as a social worker within family court, an alternative to incarceration program, and OASAS-certified substance use facilities throughout the city. He works specifically with individuals experiencing depression, addiction, oppression, and anxiety disorders, and PTSD.
