Microneedling Q & A

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a collagen induction therapy. It classifies as a minimally invasive treatment; it promotes skin rejuvenation. The procedure consists of a device with needles that create small puncture marks in the epidermal layer of the skin. The device stimulates the body to produce collagen and elastin. It’s used to create a more youthful appearance by reducing wrinkles, scars or hyperpigmentation without the need for surgery, toxic injections or other invasive procedures. Microneedling stimulates the body to repair the skin naturally.

What Areas Can Microneedling Be Performed on?

It can be performed on the scalp and face. The body and neck are common areas for the procedure. Microneedling may be done on the arms, legs and hands. The abdomen and back are other areas where micro needling can be performed, too. It benefits those who have areas around the eyes, hands, chest or mouth where chemical peels and laser techniques can’t be used.

How Is Microneedling Performed?

Dr. Grover will use a SkinPen that consists of 12 tiny needles. The battery-powered device pierces the skin and stimulates an increase in collagen production.

How Long Does Microneedling Take?

Generally, each session is short and takes anywhere between 10 to 15 minutes.

Are There Different Types of Needles?

Two types of needles exist. Shorter needles may be used to smooth out superficial skin; longer needle penetration creates a collagen response that needs a deeper penetration. The longer needles work best for acne scars and another similar scarring.

Is It Painful?

It’s not a painful procedure, but it may be slightly uncomfortable. It becomes more uncomfortable when a longer needle is needed, and the depth of penetration is greater. The doctor will apply a numbing gel to the surface of the skin. For more information regarding microneedling, give our office a call and discuss setting an appointment with a physician.
